How to Unlock Chieftain, Object 907 & VK 72.01 (K)

The T95/FV4201 Chieftain, Object 907, and VK 72.01 (K) are the three most coveted Tier X reward vehicles in World of Tanks. They are not available through the standard tech tree, the premium shop, or for direct gold purchase — the only way to get them is through Clan Wars (Global Map) campaigns and events like Maneuvers.

This guide explains every method of acquisition, the real costs involved, what each tank brings to the table, and which one you should pick first. If you are serious about competitive WoT play, owning at least the Chieftain is practically a requirement for top-level Ranked Battles and Clan Wars.

Methods of Acquisition

During an active Clan Wars campaign, there are three primary paths to claim a reward tank:

1. Personal Fame Points Leaderboard (Alley of Fame)

Every battle you play on the Global Map during a campaign earns you personal Fame Points. At the end of the event, players are ranked on the "Alley of Fame" leaderboard. If you finish in the required threshold — for example, top 9,000 players in recent EU campaigns — you can claim one reward vehicle for a set amount of Fame Points, often without spending any bonds.

• Requires consistent daily play throughout the entire 2-week campaign.
• You must be in an active, competitive clan that fights on the Global Map every day.
• The more battles your clan plays (and wins), the more Fame Points you earn. Individual performance, callers' strategy, and clan organization all matter.
• This is the cheapest way to get a reward tank — it costs time and effort, but not necessarily bonds.

2. Bond Auction

If you participated in the campaign (minimum 5 battles or 1,000 personal Fame Points, depending on the event) but did not rank high enough on the leaderboard, you can enter a blind bond auction.

• You place a single bid in bonds. All bids are secret — you don't see what others bid.
• After the auction closes, bids are ranked. If yours is above the cutoff, you win a tank. If not, your bonds are returned.
• Historical costs: Chieftain winning bids have ranged from 40,000 to 60,000+ bonds on EU, and can be even higher on NA. Object 907 and VK 72.01 (K) typically go for slightly less.
• Prices trend upward with each campaign as more players accumulate bonds.

3. Clan Reward Distribution

Some events allow high-performing clans to distribute a certain number of reward tanks directly to their top contributing members. This is decided by clan leadership, typically based on attendance, caller contribution, or Fame Points earned.

• Only top-tier clans receive distribution slots — this is not available to casual clans.
• Being a reliable, active member in a top clan is the key to eligibility.
• Strong platoon and team play skills increase your value to clan leadership.

What You Need to Prepare

Clan Wars campaigns require serious preparation. Here is what you should have ready before the event starts:

• Meta Tier X tanks: you need the current meta tanks with full modules, 100% crew, and optimal equipment setups. Super Conqueror, Object 277, EBR 105, and Object 140 are typically required.
• Trained crews: all key crew skills and perks must be at least 3-4 skills deep. Brothers in Arms, Sixth Sense, and class-specific perks are mandatory.
• Field Modifications: maximize every tank with the right Field Modification choices — these small edges add up in competitive play.
• Bond reserve: if aiming for the auction route, have at least 50,000–60,000 bonds saved.
• Credits: you will use a lot of premium consumables and gold ammo. Stock up on credits beforehand.
• Active clan membership: join a competitive clan well before the event starts. Prove yourself through Skirmishes and Advances before campaign season.

Which Tank to Pick?

The availability of these tanks rotates between campaigns. When all three are in the reward pool, choosing the right one first matters. Here is a detailed breakdown:

T95/FV4201 Chieftain

Priority: #1 — Pick this first.

Widely considered the single most powerful tank in World of Tanks. The Chieftain dominates Clan Wars, Ranked Battles, and competitive tournaments thanks to:

• Exceptional turret armor: near-impenetrable turret with small cupolas that are extremely hard to hit.
• Great gun depression (–10 degrees): dominates hull-down positions on every map.
• High DPM: competitive damage output that rivals many medium tanks.
• Excellent mobility for a heavy: fast enough to flex across the map and rotate between flanks.
• Low profile for a heavy tank, making it harder to hit in hull-down positions.

Weakness: hull armor is relatively weak. You must play hull-down at all times. Master map positioning and armor angling to get the most out of it.

Object 907

Priority: #2 — Excellent second pick.

The Object 907 has been a competitive staple for years. While some argue it has been slightly powercrept by newer mediums, it remains one of the best medium tanks in the game:

• Very high DPM: one of the highest damage-per-minute values among Tier X mediums.
• "Troll" armor profile: sloped hull and turret armor that bounces shots unpredictably, especially when wiggling.
• Excellent mobility: fast acceleration and top speed make it a versatile flanker and rotator.
• Low profile: harder to hit than most mediums, works well in hull-down spots.
• Competitive mainstay: still picked in Clan Wars for its combination of firepower and armor.

VK 72.01 (K)

The VK 72.01 (K) is a German super-heavy with a rear-mounted turret and a devastating 150 mm gun. It plays very differently from the Chieftain:

• Massive alpha damage: the 150 mm gun hits for 750 average damage per shot — one of the highest alpha values at Tier X.
• Very strong turret and upper plate: when angled correctly, it can bounce almost everything.
• Rear-mounted turret: allows excellent reverse side-scraping at corners and around buildings.
• High HP pool: one of the toughest tanks to take down in a straight brawl.
• Intimidation factor: enemies often hesitate to push into a VK 72.01 (K) holding a corridor.

Event Schedule & Tank Rotation

Wargaming typically runs 2–3 Clan Wars campaigns per year. The reward tank pool rotates — not every event features all three tanks. Recent history:

• Earlier campaigns featured limited pools with only 1–2 reward options.

• Be versatile. Own and master multiple meta tanks. Callers pick lineups, and being able to fill any role increases your play time.
• Communicate. Use voice comms, follow caller instructions instantly, and report enemy positions. Clans prioritize players who communicate well.
• Boost your stats beforehand. Top clans recruit based on WN8, win rate, and Tier X battle count. Improving these before campaign season opens doors to better clans.

Bond Auction Strategy

If you are going the auction route, smart bidding can save you thousands of bonds:

• Check historical prices from previous campaigns on your server. Community sites and forums track winning bid ranges.
• Bid slightly above the expected cutoff — not dramatically above. Overbidding wastes bonds you could use for bond equipment.
• NA tends to have higher cutoffs than EU or RU due to smaller player pools competing for fewer tank slots.
