Frontline Mode Guide (2026)

Last updated: April 2026

Frontline is the biggest recurring event in World of Tanks — 30 versus 30, tier VIII only, on one of the largest maps in the game. It's also one of the best ways to earn credits, bonds, premium time, and even exclusive reward tanks.

Whether you're playing Frontline for the first time or you want to grind all 20 reward tiers as fast as possible, this guide covers everything: how the mode works, the best tanks to bring, zone-control strategies, in-battle rank optimization, and the full reward breakdown for 2026.

Short on time? Our Frontline boosting service can complete every tier for you with safe, manual play.

How Frontline Works

Frontline pits 30 attackers against 30 defenders on an oversized map divided into three zones (A, B, C). The mode plays in phases:

  1. Phase 1 — Zone Capture: Attackers advance across the map and attempt to capture objectives in each zone. Defenders fight to hold them. As zones fall, new objectives open deeper in the map. Each zone operates independently, so fights happen across the entire front simultaneously.
  2. Phase 2 — Pillbox Assault: Once enough zones are captured, attackers gain access to five artillery pillboxes at the rear of the map. Destroying all five pillboxes wins the battle for the attackers. Defenders must stall until the timer runs out.
  3. Phase 3 — Overtime (if needed): If a pillbox objective is being actively contested when the clock hits zero, overtime kicks in until the fight resolves.

Battles last up to 12 minutes per phase, making them longer than Random Battles but far more dynamic — you can respawn, switch tanks, and call in combat reserves (airstrike, artillery strike, inspire, recon flight, engineering).

Respawns & Combat Reserves

Unlike Random Battles, you respawn after being destroyed in Frontline. You can bring multiple tanks in a preset and swap between them on each respawn. This fundamentally changes how you should think about trading HP and aggression:

  • Don't camp. Dying is not the end — sitting at the back doing nothing is the real loss because you miss out on damage and rank points.
  • Play aggressively on attack. Push objectives, reset caps, and trade HP to create openings. You'll respawn and keep your combat reserves.
  • Rotate tanks. Bring 3–5 different tanks and switch based on the current situation — a light for capping, a medium for flexing, a heavy for pushing.

Combat Reserves

You earn and upgrade combat reserves as you rank up in Frontline. Use them strategically:

  • Airstrike: Deals damage in an area — best for resetting caps or finishing low-HP enemies behind cover.
  • Artillery Strike: Larger area, longer delay — use to deny a zone or force defenders to reposition.
  • Inspire: Boosts your nearby teammates' reload and repair speed. Pop this during a coordinated push to overwhelm a defense point.
  • Recon Flight: Spots all enemies in an area — use before pushing a zone so you know exactly where everyone is.
  • Engineering: Repairs and restores HP to nearby allies. Useful in a prolonged hold or push where you're clustered.

Best Tanks for Frontline (2026)

Frontline is tier VIII only, so your garage matters. Premium tanks are ideal because they also farm credits while you grind. Here's a tier list:

S-Tier (Dominant)

  • Progetto M35 mod. 46 — The gold standard. Autoreloader gives burst when needed and sustained DPM when farming. Great mobility for map rotation.
  • Bourrasque — Insane burst damage (720 in 2 shots), excellent camo, fast. Perfect for hit-and-run and capping under pressure.
  • EBR 75 (FL) — The ultimate capping machine. Speed lets you ghost into undefended zones and force defenders to react. Also great for Recon.

A-Tier (Excellent)

  • LT-432 — Aggressive spotter with genuine armor for a light tank. Works on attack and defense.
  • Renegade — High alpha heavy with a strong turret. Dominates chokepoints when defending.
  • Löwe — Accurate gun, strong turret, excellent credit multiplier. A credit-printing sniper for Frontline.
  • CS-52 LIS — Fast medium with good alpha and workable armor. Flexible in every phase.
  • UDES 14 Alt 5 — Great gun depression and high pen. Strong on hilly terrain, which Frontline maps have plenty of.

B-Tier (Solid picks)

  • Bisonte C45 — Armored autoreloader, good for aggressive pushes.
  • Skoda T 56 — Devastating autoloader burst but slow reload limits sustained farming. Best for defense.
  • SU-130PM — High alpha TD for long-range punishing. Pick on open zones where enemies must cross.
  • WZ-120-1G FT — Strong armor profile, high alpha, works in defensive corridors.

Set up your equipment and field modifications specifically for Frontline — view range and mobility matter more than in Randoms.

Strategy: Attack vs. Defense

Attacking Tips

  • Focus the weakest zone. Watch the minimap for the zone with fewest defenders and push there. Frontline rewards aggression — sitting in one lane while another is open is a mistake.
  • Use lights and wheeled tanks to cap. Even driving through a capture zone for a few seconds forces defenders to respond and split their attention.
  • Coordinate pushes with combat reserves. An Artillery Strike followed by an Inspire on your push group can break through any defense.
  • Don't snipe from spawn. You earn rank points from cap and defense points, not just damage. Get into the objectives.
  • After capturing a zone, rotate fast. Don't linger — move to the next objective or head for pillboxes once they open.

Defending Tips

  • Play hull-down on objectives. Force attackers to come to you. Armor angling and hull-down play are even more critical in Frontline than in Randoms.
  • Don't chase kills. Your job is to stall, not to farm damage in the open. Dying far from the objective gives attackers free cap time.
  • Rotate to threatened zones. Use map rotation principles — watch the minimap constantly and fall back to the next line of defense if a zone is about to fall.
  • Save Airstrikes for cap resets. One well-placed airstrike on a cluster of enemies sitting on the cap circle can single-handedly save a zone.
  • Guard pillboxes laterally. Once pillboxes open, don't stand directly in front — position to the sides to crossfire attackers approaching them.

How to Rank Up to General Every Battle

Your in-battle rank (Private → Sergeant → Lieutenant → Captain → Major → General) determines how many Frontline Points you earn. General gives the maximum payout, and consistently hitting it is the key to finishing all 20 reward tiers efficiently.

Rank is based on total performance points from:

  • Damage dealt — the biggest contributor. Farm as much as possible.
  • Kills — bonus points per kill.
  • Capture / defense points — often underrated. Sitting on a cap for 30 seconds can be worth as many rank points as 1,000 damage.
  • Damage upon spotting — plays double for light tanks who spot for the team.
  • Combat reserve usage — using reserves at the right time grants rank points too.

General Checklist

  1. Deal 4,000+ damage throughout the battle across all your lives.
  2. Get 2+ kills.
  3. Accumulate capture and defense points — tap contested caps even briefly.
  4. Use all combat reserves (unused reserves = lost rank points).
  5. Stay active — avoid long respawn-to-death cycles with no output. Switch to a faster tank if you're stuck.

If you consistently hit Major or General, you can complete all 20 tiers in around 60–90 battles per episode. Averaging lower ranks may need 130+.

Frontline Rewards Breakdown (2026)

Frontline has 20 reward tiers that fill as you earn Frontline Points across the episode. Here's what you can expect:

Tier RangeTypical Rewards
1–5Credits, Personal Reserves (XP & credit boosters), small bond packages
6–10Larger bond packages, premium account days, unique 2D styles
11–15Significant credit/bond rewards, special equipment demounting kits, additional boosters
16–20Top-tier rewards: reward tank token or large bond package, exclusive styles, premium time

Exact rewards change each episode — Wargaming adjusts the loot table seasonally. The overall structure (escalating value per tier) stays the same.

Credit Farming in Frontline

Frontline is one of the most efficient credit-farming modes in WoT. Battles are long, respawns let you deal massive total damage, and premium tanks multiply your earnings. Here's how to maximize credits:

  • Use premium tier-VIII tanks exclusively. The credit multiplier on premiums stacks with Frontline's already generous payouts. A single Frontline battle on a Progetto or Löwe can net 150k–300k credits.
  • Activate credit boosters. Personal Reserves (50% or 100% credit boosters) apply per battle, and Frontline battles last much longer — you get more value per booster.
  • Fire standard ammo. Frontline isn't super-competitive — you don't need full gold rounds. Use standard AP/APCR to keep costs down and maximize net income.
  • Avoid low-damage deaths. Dying without dealing damage still costs you repair. Make every life count.

Common Frontline Mistakes

  • Playing only one tank. Frontline rewards versatility. Bring a mix of classes so you can adapt to each respawn situation.
  • Ignoring capture points. Many players farm damage and ignore objectives. Cap/defense points are free rank progress and often make the difference between Major and General.
  • Not using combat reserves. Every unused reserve is wasted rank points. Even a mediocre airstrike is better than no airstrike.
  • Tunnel-visioning one zone. If your zone is locked down, rotate. The minimap shows all three zones — attackers especially should flow to wherever the defense is thinnest.
  • Sniping from spawn as attacker. You earn almost no rank points from back-line sniping. Push up and participate in the objectives.
  • Poor crew skills. Make sure your Frontline crews have Sixth Sense, Repairs, and vision perks. An under-skilled crew puts you at a massive disadvantage.
